Only companies licensed by the Ministry of Health may import drugs, medical supplies,or medical equipment. As of April 2013, there were 1,710 registered pharmacies, 245drug import/export companies, and 08medical manufacturing institutions in the country. In addition to the formal market, there is a gray market of smuggled pharmaceuticals that are often counterfeit.
A number of new private hospitals and clinics have opened in the past few years, and more are expected in the future, offering potential opportunities for sales of medical supplies and medical equipment.
